Council launches ‘Faces, Places and Spaces’ Photography Competition

1 March 2018

Budding photographers are in with a chance to win a $500 Gunnedah Gift Card and the opportunity to exhibit their works as Gunnedah Shire Council launches a new photography competition titled ‘Faces, Places and Spaces’.

The competition is now open for entries and Gunnedah Shire Council is asking local people to snap pictures of the landscape around them; flora and fauna; tourist destinations and the CBD; community events; community, culture and lifestyle; villages; commercial and industry; and a creative depiction of what the photographer loves most about where they live. All photos must have been taken in the Gunnedah Shire from January 2018.

Gunnedah Shire Council’s Communications Officer Ashley Gardner said the competition is aimed at community engagement and exposure of Gunnedah Shire’s gems.
“The Gunnedah Shire provides photographers with an endless supply of photo opportunities and we are looking for images that creatively capture our Shire,” Mrs Gardner said.

“We want the photographers to tell their story of Gunnedah and its people through their lens.”

Mrs Gardner said Council plans to host the competition bi-annually, to build a photographic record of the Shire and for future promotional purposes.

“Not only will the competition allow the photographers to showcase their talents in an exhibition, there is potential for them to see their work published on websites and brochures, which is really exciting,” she said.

Entries to the competition opened on March 1 and will close on May 31. All entries will be featured in an exhibition in June 2018, where judging will take place. Entry is open to Gunnedah Shire residents only.

The overall winner (must submit a photo in each category) will receive a $500 Gunnedah Gift Card and first place in each category will receive a $50 Gunnedah Gift Card. Judging will be open for a People’s Choice Award throughout the exhibition, with the winner presented a $100 Gunnedah Gift Card at the July Ordinary Council Meeting. Entrants can receive more than one prize.
