In 2022/23, construction commenced on the Gunnedah Koala Sanctuary. The sanctuary is located on a 50-acre bushland site on the Oxley Highway.
The Gunnedah Shire Animal Impound Facility is being constructed alongside the existing facility on Quia Road, Gunnedah, adjacent the Gunnedah Waste Facility. When constructed the Facility will have a separate access driveway, so the public will no longer be required to enter through the Waste Facility entrance.
